Every Girl Should Have A Poem Written For Her (9)

Lucy*

Though be it what I call you
I doubt it be your name
Young girl on swings like wings
Red hair, freckles, glasses
iPod in, silent
On playground terribly empty
Without even fair
Merry-go-round
To play.
Even if it be odd to say
It’s cold these days
And lonely here.
Here, let’s share
This steaming tea, you and I—
Dear Lucy,
I am quite glad
You were not crushed
Beneath this falling tree.
The rain that day did urge you in.
Inside.
In room, I imagine
With book and music.
The tree toppled there
We heard it go down like Armageddon’s eve.
It landed
Like a crack
Upon your swing-set wings.
And there still, it lays.
They haven’t yet erected you new swings
And you no longer come around
These days.

*As you can see, I didn’t redact the name here. The reason being, as the poem says, this isn’t the girl’s real name anyway.
