Every Girl Should Have a Poem Written for Her (16)

If those D—– fairytales are true

I’ll spread my wings and fly—

But don’t worry.

I wouldn’t fly without you.

And in the clouds we’ll whisper truths

The kinds the birds do sing

The kinds we all are missing:

You are enough

Always, my girl

Don’t think those same mistaken things

I did.

You have your mind

Beautiful, sweet

You have all you have ever learned

All you ever will

All you have ever created

Every story you have ever told

Ever will tell

Every painting you’ve ever painted

Every painting you’ll ever paint—

You are enough.

You are so much more.
