Every Girl Should Have a Poem Written For Her (28)

Do you do not know
The story of Medusa
A priestess, beautiful
Bent and battered
Cast aside?
I’ll tell you the story
Of Medusa fair
That you’ll remember
Her long, beautiful hair—
Like you’ll remember
Corded as ropes
A shell
So worthless:
The temple of Athena
A pitiful protection
When the waves crush the shore
Remember Medusa—
Her long fair hair—
Remember her cast down
Where I was
Long years past—
Do you know that cave?
Perched upon solemn cliffs
Well. We all need a change
Every now and again.
Hand me those shears.
My serpents
I’ll now shave.
